There's so much talent hidden in Miami and 17-year-old Valerie Chapman is living proof of that. This past year she has walked runways all over South Florida, and now she is on her way to New York City to continue her modeling career at full speed.
I credit Woody Allen’s movies for my love of The Big Apple. He makes the city so appealing. I can’t get enough of New York City. I find myself jealous, jealous of New York. But I remain loyal to Miami. The city is on the top of my list. I want to steal all of the best qualities from cities and bring it here.
Sadly, as I said goodbye to Val, I started thinking a lot about how Miami has never been taken seriously in the fashion industry. To the mistake of many, there are many good fashion designers and fashion photographers right here, in Miami.
When you look at Valerie, you can see how much swag she has, just by the clothes she wears. I don't really need to give her much direction. She just slays. It’s unfortunate that Miami only slays its bikini shoots. I’m a fan of bikini shoots, but I KNOW that this city has more to offer than that.
I decided a while back that Miami was going to be my city at least for a while, after leaving in a bunch of cities in South America and Europe. There's just so much that Miami has to offer with its Latin American culture, now we just need to infuse it into a healthier fashion industry. So we can get girls like Valerie Chapman to want to live here, and we'll slay too.
